Gourmet is nothing more than someone with a considerably broad palate; meaning, they have a good taste for different flavors. So what do we need in order to qualify our dish as gourmet..

Well, usually it takes ingredients that are difficult to find in one area but could be easily accessible elsewhere or we can find ingredients of higher quality. Once we have our items of choice, the next way to create a gourmet dish is to make it presentable. We want to make it exquisite for our visuals to crave, as well as, our taste buds.

Not only does it sound superb but it adds extra ZAZZ!!!

As many of you may already know, I day trade. What is day trading? According to the Oxford Dictionary, day trading is “the buying and selling of securities on the same day, often online, on the basis of small, short-term price fluctuations.” Sounds fancy too, right?

It offers unlimited potential just like food combinations! Not every recipe may be a hit but you learn about what triggers your palate and what turns it off. Just like learning your favorite trading strategies.

Easy Gourmet Granola Treats

Let’s start by figuring out how to create easy gourmet granola treats. First let’s take something as simple as oats! The possibilities are crazy insane but I’ll start with recipes straight out of my cook book!

These are AMAZING for day trading treats. Takes about 20-25 minutes to make and then I have snacks/breakfast for several days. Whenever I want a snack they’re ready to go and I KNOW what is in my food. This takes away the worry of eating too much processed and sugary foods. Now when I am behind a screen I don’t have to worry about losing the progress I’ve made working out and eating right.

Granola Bars are an amazing source of protein IF you make them right. Not only do they create lasting memories but they are also QUICK, EASY and CONVENIENT for busy lifestyles! These are healthy, sweet and savory treats that are great for any time of day!

Grab a medium sized bowl, 9X9in pan and line it with parchment paper or oil it up with spray, butter or coconut oil. A trick to parchment paper: cut the corners so you can fold them to the shape of the square pan. Now preheat your oven to 350 degrees F so we may begin the fun! Make sure you have a 1 cup, 3/4 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/3 cup, and a tablespoon to measure the following ingredients.

To make this easier I combine dry ingredients first: Stir together to create an evenly mixture (also you may add these ingredients to a food processor if you do not like all of the chunks; remember to leave out the mini chocolate chips if you don’t want them chopped up.. You can add the chocolate chips after you remove mixture from the processor (or you favorite kind of chip; peanut chips, vanilla chips, etc.) )

Dry Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of Whole Oats
  • 1/2 cup of Sliced Almonds
  • 1/2 cup of Salad Topping Mix: Roasted Sunflower Seeds, Roasted Pumpkin Seed, Dried Cranberries, with Tamari Sauce (soybeans, salt).
  • 1 cup of Mini Chocolate Chips
  • 3 tablespoons of whole Flax seeds (ground up works too)
  • 2 tablespoons of whole Chia seeds (ground up works too)

Feel free to add different dry ingredients such as your favorite dried fruits: Cherries, Blueberries, Raisins, Dates, etc.

You may even like: Hemp seeds, coconut shavings, Walnuts, and Pecans

Now we need to make it stick! This can be fun if you are using your hands to combine the foods. Kids definitely love this part. There is a way to do this with and without eggs.

First, I will talk about with egg and next will be an alternative without using eggs.

Once mixed together then combine in the same bowl:

Wet Ingredients: With Eggs

You can either combine butters & honey (no egg) in a sauce pan and melt on medium heat until it mixes and softens or just add the butters directly to dry ingredients (with egg). For more crumble combine without heating in a sauce pan.

  • 1/2 cup Almond Honey Butter
  • 1/2 cup Walnut Banana Butter
  • 3/4 cup Sunflower Seed Butter (tasted nearly the same as peanut butter)
  • 1/3 cup Honey (agave, your favorite syrup, etc.)
  • 2 Eggs

Combine until thick

Wet Ingredients WithOUT Eggs:

  • 1/2 cup Almond Honey Butter
  • 1/2 cup Walnut Banana Butter
  • 3/4 cup Sunflower Seed Butter
  • 1/3 cup Honey (agave, your favorite syrup, etc.)
  • Instead of egg, you can either melt the butters and add it to the dry ingredients without soaking the chia seeds (works best if dry ingredients are chopped by a food processor) or you can take the 2 tablespoons of chia seeds and add 5 tablespoons of water. If you feel it is not enough then slowly add more chia seeds and more water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes before adding it to the heated nut butter mixture)

Combine everything together and mix until thick!

Now you are ready to add everything to your 9×9 pan lined with parchment paper. Press down to compress the ingredients together so they hold tight. Cook in the oven that has been preheated to 350 degrees F and bake for 20 minutes.

After about 20 minutes you have completed your creation of an easy gourmet granola treat!

To help prevent your bars from turning into a crumble (although I cherish the crumblings by saving them in a separate container so I can later add them to my parfaits, porridges, ice creams, berry crumbles and other treats) you can speed up the cooling process by throwing them into the freezer for about 5-10 minutes. Otherwise you can leave them in the refrigerator until you are ready to eat.

Either before or after cooled you can cut the bars and use the parchment paper to help you remove them evenly. I usually cut them before they are cooled but it depends on how much crumble you want. If they are super cooled then it may crumble less but if you cut them while they are warm and don’t stick them back together then that can cause crumble too.

Storage

  • Most places that I read online talked about them lasting at room temperature in an air tight container for up to 7 days. A trick to prevent sticking is to place parchment paper between bars. You can wrap them neatly and to provide beauty, tie them with a bow from string, rope, or ribbon (pleasant for holidays or gifts)
  • Refrigerator keeps them up to 2 couple weeks
  • Frozen up to 3 months

Mine are always eaten within a couple weeks but I like to immediately store them in the freezer, remove them the morning of or night before I want to eat them that way the chocolate melts in my mouth sooner. These treats are also very delicious frozen!

This easy gourmet granola treat recipe is my favorite for quick snacks that I can even have for breakfast and lunch depending on how busy my day is. They have enough protein to fill me up so I can focus on trading and playing with my son.

My favorite gourmet hack for the holidays is to create granola bars, like my recipe above, by adding special spices such as Cinnamon, Pumpkin Spice, Nutmeg and even hints of Ginger for a warmer, cozier, comforting feel.

Simply add your spice of choice to the dry ingredients segment of the recipe. after you combine your wet ingredients and If you do not add egg, then you can safely taste your whole mixture until the holiday flavors dance around your taste buds!

Another fun trick I LOVE about baking my easy gourmet granola treat recipe is cutting them into bite sized pieces! Usually a decent size is 1 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 inch squares. My other favorite thing to do with my son is break out the cookie cutters. Cut the bars out in shapes such as hearts, stars, circles, and other creative shapes! This usually leaves more for the crumble recipes which is why this is perfect for the holiday treats!
